LIMINARY INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN TO STUDENTS
RAPPELS
REMINDERS
-The documentary's central theme >> A Roman's journey through time and space
This pilgrim is a kind of ghost who speaks through a voiceover
-We will reuse all or part of the footage already produced, as the film must evoke borders and travel... and the situation of migrants today: we must therefore choose these rushes
-We will film missing scenes in each school
-But especially decisive/significative scenes will be produced together during C5
IMPORTANT: FIRST STEP OF THE "TERMINIS MUNDI PROCESS">>
Greetings !
This is Mathilda and Elena speaking.
As you may know, the main idea for our documentary has been choosen : thus, our current objective is to write the whole scenario.
In order to do that, we ask for the contribution of all the countries to :
- Make a list and a selection of all the roman remains - physical, but also cultural- that are present in your country, and that you wish to show, most importantly.
- Start thinking of the current available rushes that you got from the previous travels and that may be useful for the documentary.
It doesn't have to deal with the roman part of the movie, more with the boundaries/immigration one. Feel free to share footages of dances as an example.
The first point is the most needed ; we won't be able to write the scenario without a proper vision of the path we'll follow toward the movie.
A few reminders on the current synopsis :
- Briefly : we're following the journey of a ghost from the Roman Empire. They are looking for it's legacy toward the countries of the project in our current era. We don't know yet what he/she may be, but we're thinking of a soldier or a poet.
- We propably won't need for an actor : the ghost is the narrator, they mainly speaks.
- The current title is temporary.
- We must not forget that the subject of the boundaries is our main directive ; we have to work on that perspective of the Roman Empire.
In order to give us enough time to think of the footages to shoot and to write the scenario before the travel to Rome, we are setting the deadline for the asked instructions to the 4 of July 2025.
This is pretty much everything ; we give you our regards and our thanks,
Mathilda and Elena.

Salut!

RépondreSupprimerSCRIPT FOR WRITING/CONTINUATION OF THE IDEA
TERMINIS MUNDI
START:
Map of the Roman Empire – Music??? A Romano (face)/ on the move leaving Rome/ in a group, descending to the Mediterranean. Name- César Augusto? Origin? Soldier? Merchant? Both? HE USE Roman roads (vias)... ONE boat? WE CAN Use images from the workshop on the costumes of the Romans worn by the students (held at the Romanian meeting) before giving the voice.
The character is already in the EASTERN PART OF THE EMPIRE, you see people from ancient Turkey (Anatolia), ancient Romania (Dacia)...) and this CHARACTER talks about the journey he made, the important commercial objectives with traders from various parts, including from the Latvian area - the Latgalians - who descend towards the Silk Road, to Kazan and Istanbul (formerly Constantinople). Off-screen, the voice that explains this. AND they show images about these regions and countries:
. Latvia---Old images of the city of Riga and the region, of historical events. Music and dances. Rio and the landscape. Interviews. IMMIGRANTS OR TRAVELERS.
. Romania – Old images of the city of Cluj Napoca and the region, historical events. Music and dances. The landscapes. Interviews. IMMIGRANTS OR TRAVELERS/STUDENTS.
. Turkey- The Silk Road. Constantinople/ Roman ruins/ the Mediterranean Sea/ Çesme/ tourism, immigrants, refugees.
Images of these countries – borders-immigrants – Today.
The Roman meets up with other Roman soldiers from Romania or from other areas of the empire to embark on the Turkish coast... voice, towards the Iberian Peninsula.
Journey by land AND SEA to the Iberian Peninsula. Image of a map of the Iberian Peninsula at that time with Lusitania. Face of the Lusitanian chef Viriato.
Portugal (Lusitania) – the Roman presence in the Iberian Peninsula: Images of Troy and the ruins of Miróbriga (Roman city known for the garum trade – garum is a fish sauce). Images of ruins in Grândola - Pêgo da Moura dam, used for irrigation of agricultural fields and public baths (travelers' rest area), located within the school space (Grândola primary school). Watch video made by Portuguese students. Meeting with a Lusitanian (an allusion to Viriato, in the conversation?) in Lisbon, land of Ulysses? (Odyssey Myth?) Image of the Tagus River. Departure of the Roman by boat. Image of the current city: people on the street - tourists. The multicultural Portuguese school. Interview with the student - excerpt. The Castle of Lisbon/the castle of Palmela- Moors and Castilians, africans/Monument to the Discoveries and the Tower of Belém: the discoveries. Camões and Vasco da Gama. Selection of photographs and drawings. MUSIC.
Path by sea and land to S. Jean de Luz. Natural borders and the school without borders. Etc... dance and music. The historical perspective of the region. Descent to Rome... Suggestion for the ending: If the character's journey ends in Rome, not Rome of the past, but the city of today: we could resort to flashbacks that cross several ruins of the Roman empire with what they are today. In the end, the Roman can spread throughout the city's crowd, implying that the story is not over, but rather that it is happening now, in the streets, in schools, etc.
